Edge of The West pays tribute to Gram Parsons, one of the great songwriters on the 50th Anniversary of his tragic passing. This special night will take you on a musical celebration through Gram's iconic songs with help from special guests like pedal steel master Charlie Joe Wallace and Diana Z on vocals. Their intrepid expeditions have taken them from Arizona to Alaska, Colorado to the Kona coast of Hawaii, bringing their psychedelic outlaw dance party to some of America’s most adventurous and colorful venues and festivals. Featuring members with long resumes backing the greats of country, rock and bluegrass, the band cooks up an Americana stew of influences with a decidedly West Coast 70’s vibe. All members sing and write, as they mix their audience-beloved originals with a huge catalog of eclectic covers, often leaning on the Dead, New Riders, and Gram Parsons, plus a wide range of eclectic chestnuts, rarities and songs by other allies on the front. MAMA MAGNOLIA For the bicoastal six-piece Mama Magnolia—vocalist Megan Letts, saxophonist Alex Cazet, guitarist Thomas Jennings, drummer Jackson Hillmer, trumpeter Carrie McCune, and bassist Zach Jackson—the process of making their first full-length Dear Irvington was an essential remedy amidst distress. Following a successfully overfunded Kickstarter campaign, Dear Irvington was a comfort for Mama Magnolia to lean into amidst a continually harrowing time, while also turning tumultuous, personal stories into ostensibly groovy jaunts. They enlisted producer Robert Ellis and former White Denim drummer and engineer Josh Block to help funnel their ideas and further animate their intricate, sometimes nerdy, sophisticated rock compositions. There’s no reservation in diving into the deep end of depression (“Grey”), unpacking the betrayal of a loved one (“Each Time You Lie”), or expressing frustration with another who won’t take a chance on a relationship (“Try Me”). Dear Irvington focuses on empathetic missives, highlighting Mama Magnolia’s emotional maturation to explore complex emotions rather than run away from them.
