About this concert
Sister duo Charm of Finches from Melbourne, Australia, makes haunted tunes about love, grief and whispering trees; indie folk with many stringed things, awash with seamless blood harmonies traversing melancholy and wonder in equal measure. Their 2019 sophomore album "Your Company" won the 2020 Independent Music Awards' Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Album - the same award won by Martha Wainwright the previous year. Winners of the 2021 Music Victoria Best Folk Act and 2021 Australian Folk Music Awards Youth Act of the Year, their music has been nominated twice for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. The sisters, Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes, released their third full length album WONDERFUL OBLIVION in October 2021 through New York-based label AntiFragile Music to critical acclaim and are touring the UK and Europe in Spring/Summer 2022. ?Wonderful Oblivion is a moving work, dressing up the shared experiences of the everyday with music that tugs at the heart and stirs the imagination.? (**** The Australian). ?Their harmonies are confident, complex and complete achieving an overall aching, ethereal, lyrical quality ? (Helen Smith - Live Review - Daily Info). Support comes from Mia Kelly, a singer-songwriter from Quebec, Canada who is swiftly gaining recognition as a poetic lyricist with her powerful vocals and versatile voice. With her knack for adapting the stories of the people she has connected with in her life, Kelly is an imaginative storyteller who channels her raw and vulnerable emotions through her expertly crafted songs written and performed in both English and French. In August of 2022, Kelly released her first album ?Garden Through the War?. Produced by Jim Bryson (Kathleen Edwards, The Tragically Hip). The record demonstrates maturity in Kelly?s songwriting, exploring themes of resilience and growth that follow hardship. The album has received recognition from the SOCAN foundation, was nominated for Album of The Year at the 2023 Folk Music Awards and earned her two 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award nominations. She will be releasing her follow-up album in 2024. "...a knockout voice...heartfelt songs..." (Lynn Saxberg, Ottawa Citizen). "..she?s one heck of a powerhouse vocalist with a terrific collection of songs." (Roots Music Canada).
