About this concert
We welcome your favourite Oslo rock band Podcasts back to Oxford - they are re-combining for their first shows since 2020 in support of their self-titled debut album, released on Prefect Records this August. They are joined by London?s favourite indie-pop horde Baggio, who are on their first ever UK tour. Podcasts? formed in Oslo in late 2018, bringing together four work colleagues ? Ellis Jones, Kyle Devine, Tore Størvold and Emil Kraugerud ? who just happened to have a music rehearsal room in their basement. Their 2019 double-single Dragging The Lake / First Things First was the sound of some peoples? summer. Their debut album was recorded in Oslo in late 2019, and was almost complete before Covid hit, during which time half the band moved away from Oslo. The band finally reunited in May 2023 to put the finishing touches on their record ? and they are touring the UK in August 2023 in support of its release on Prefect Records. In the two years since the release of their With Every Passing Day, their 2021 3-track EP, Baggio have forged a reputation as one of South London's most beloved live bands. Its ever rotating cast of members, instruments and songs ensure no two shows are ever quite alike; one week you might see them as a two-piece, armed with a banjo and a nylon string guitar performing Modest Mouse covers, the next as a fully fledged nine-piece, Tetris-ed onto a stage too small for six. Built around frontperson Ben Wyborn's songwriting, influenced as much by Silver Jews, Bill Callahan and Neil Young as by football, TfL and the acts with which they share their corner of the capital, the band's sound has grown from twinkly Garageband compositions to fully formed alt-country goodness filled with lap steel guitar, violin, horns and harmonicas. They've recently finished recording their new album, two years in the making and filled with songs that have filled their sets over the past 24 months. Rotating cast of South London musicians performing alt-country, indie rock built around the songwriting of frontperson Ben Wyborn, influenced in equal parts by Silver Jews, Bill Callahan and Neil Young as football, TfL and the acts with which they share their corner of the capital. Can't wait to be enconsed in this at Common Ground!
