About this concert
9.15pm Crake Alt-folk four piece from the city of Leeds in northern England, Crake, write melodic and (sometimes) hopeful songs about flora, fauna, anxiety and the tough stuff. Formed on the cusp of 2016/17 after a New Year?s Eve pact, they have since toured the UK and EU with alt-indie megastars Big Thief and released their mesmerising album "Humans' Worst Habits" on Fika Recordings, listen here https://shop.fikarecordings.com/album/humans-worst-habits Led by enigmatic songwriter Rowan Sandle, Crake is driven by her endless curiosity. Armed with her gently cracking vocal, and inspiration from writers like Shirley Jackson and Nan Shepherd, she sings of crinoids, slime mould and pussy willow. 8.30pm Mi Mye Wakefield/Leeds supergroup Mi Mye is formed of current and past members of (take a breath) Carpet, Buen Chico, Death to Everyone, Crake, Little Japanese Toy, Valley of Arches, St Gregory Orange, The Old House, THANK and Soft Orca, who bring life to songwriter Jamie Lockhart's perceptive and heartbreaking lyrics, told in the style of his elected grandparents, Willie John and Bella, from his upbringing on the far north coast of the Scottish Highlands. That's the long version. In short, as summarised by Sam from the Republic of Athens Records podcast: 'if Belle and Sebastian listened to Pavement'. Mi Mye features a gently movable line-up of members, each bringing their own incredible musicianship and personality.
