Claire Wright Music Biography

I’d moved out of my hometown, Auburn, California and made my way down to Southern California for
college. After a year of school and changing my major more times than I can remember, I found myself on the first
day of summer wondering what in the hell I was doing!? All I wanted to do was make music and I was definitely
writing way more songs than I was doing homework. I looked up the closest recording studio on Yelp and there
was a studio less than a mile away. Their resume of recordings included some of my favorite Reggae/Ska bands. I
made my way to 17th Street Studios that very day and met with one of the owners/producers. He asked if I’d ever
co-written with anyone. A light went off in my spirit, I’d never co-written with anyone. My mind was blown. The
thought of creating a song with another person sounded like pure magic; especially to a girl that had only ever
written songs alone with a guitar in her bedroom. And it didn’t disappoint. It also just so happened that my first
ever co-write, made possible via this Yelp discovered gold mine of a producer, was with one of the founding
members/songwriters of the band, Sugar Ray. Talk about meant to be! We do a couple co-writes that summer and
one of my demos found its way to the desk of an A&R at Epic Records in Los Angeles. Two weeks later, I’m in Santa
Monica singing for LA Reid. Three hours and a fake ID bar visit later, I got the call that I was getting my first record
deal with Epic Records. *Fun fact, I usually take my shoes off when I sing. In the meeting, I took off my flip flops
and slid them under my seat. I made sure that when I left the room full of record execs, I had a reason to come
back and remind them why I was suitable for a major label deal. “I forgot my shoes,” I smile. LA Reid stood up and
shook my hand and I knew right there something good was on the horizon.* After signing a record deal with a label
primarily known for their footprints in the Hip Hop genre, I began taking songwriting trips to Nashville, TN. I’d
visited Nashville before with stars in my eyes (that’s a whole ‘nother story that may involve a two seater
helicopter…see the press release I sent to the local news station here) but hot damn, there was nothing quite like
diving into the writing community and realizing I had a home away from home. Long story short, or maybe short
story long, here I am sans the record deal that led me to where I was supposed to be, plus a bevy of songs I
couldn't be more proud of and a bad ass team in my corner. And so the story continues...

Fueled by charisma, sunshine, and adventure, Claire Wright is committed to the agenda of living a life worth
writing songs about. Making her way from Northern California to Nashville with a few spontaneous-turnedserendipitous encounters along the way, Wright has found a home in Music City as a published writer for Universal
Music Publishing Group (UMPG). Co-produced by Jimmy Robbins (Maddie and Tae, Gabby Barrett, Keith Urban)
and Eric Arjes, and co-written by Claire, Ben Glover, and Colby Wedgeworth, the “California country singersongwriter emanates sunshine on her escape-inducing single, “I Could Use A Beach” (American Songwriter). The
introductory track augments and appeases the desire for a warm getaway with references of fond nostalgia and
vivid beach-side bliss. Having been described as reggae-country, Wright’s sound is a comforting sonic cocktail of
cadences eluding to ska with contemporary country appeal. Take a sip!
