DENA DEROSE
Jazz Vocalist and Pianist
As a leader she has 13 recordings to her credit, her CD’s on the Maxjazz label “A Walk In the Park”, “Live at Jazz Standard-Vol.1”, and “Live at Jazz Standard-Vol. 2” have all received rave reviews, and garnered Grammy considerations. Her solo recording on Maxjazz "Travelin' Light" was released in 2012 to many positive reviews. More recently, DeRose's release on HighNote Records "We Won't Forget You...An Homage To Shirley Horn", garnered much attention and is still a 'project' that is requested for certain performances. Her latest recording, 'United', features her trio of more than 14+ years (Martin Wind and Matt Wilson), along with special guests Ingrid Jensen and Peter Bernstein.
Her trio has been featured at the annual IAJE (now the JEN) jazz education conference (New York City, Long Beach, Toronto, Dallas, and Reno), the Monterey Jazz Festival (CA), the North Sea Jazz Festival (the Netherlands), The Ancona Jazz Festival (Italy), The Red Sea Jazz Festival (Israel), The Estoril Jazz Festival (Portugal), The Stanford Jazz Festival (CA), The San Jose Festival (CA), The Tel Aviv Opera House (Israel), the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Jazz Standard (NYC), the Blue Note (NYC), Jazz Standard (NYC), Birdland (NYC), Mezzrow/Smalls (NYC), Body and Soul and Swing Hall (Tokyo), The Jazz Cruise, and the ‘Annual Jazz At Sea’ Jazz Cruise, and many other jazz venues around the globe.
Dena DeRose has performed with the Ray Brown Trio, the Clark Terry Quintet, Benny Golson, Houston Person, Mark Murphy, Rufus Reid, Steve Davis (trbn), Albert “Tootie” Heath, Victor Lewis, Kenny Washington (drms), Ken Peplowski, Akira Tana, Bill Charlap, Deborah Brown, Kenny Burrell, Jim Rotondi, Harry Allen, Ingrid Jensen, Peter Barshay,
Peter Washington, Larry Grenadier, Dennis Irwin, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jim Rotondi, Jay Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, among many others.
An experienced music educator for over 30 years, DeRose is currently heading the Vocal Jazz Department of the "KUG Jazz Institute" at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. She travels Europe, The U.S., Scandinavia, and Asia giving workshops, master classes, and private lessons. Dena has been on the faculty of the Stanford Summer Jazz Workshop for the past 21 years. In 2007, Ms DeRose was chosen as a Fulbright Specialist through the US Embassy and was 'Artist in Residence' at the first Jazz Institute in Izmir, Turkey. She is available for residencies and masterclasses world-wide.
