Peter Allen Jensen Biography

Northern Michigan is home to country blues & roots musician Peter Allen Jensen who claims to have fallen in love with the blues the very first time he heard the iconic Stevie Ray Vaughan. It was at that moment he decided he’d learn to play the blues and for the next few years thousands of hours were spent bending notes on his Stratocaster and listening to Stevie Ray and Billy Gibbons’ electric interpretations. By the time he left for Boston to pursue his musical dream he’d already played on stage with famed Chicago bluesman John Primer at the Arc in Ann Arbor and done the same with The House Rockers at the Chicago BluesFest, but once exposed to the early recordings of Muddy Waters and other Delta country blues artists his taste in blues was redefined. Shortly after arriving in New England things changed as his Fender Stratocaster and Gibson Les Paul were put aside for an acoustic guitar as he learned the songs of original delta blues artists like Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Willie McTell.
Peter spent time learning acoustic blues from and playing with, the likes of Paul Rishell and Annie Raines, Guy Davis, Duke Robillard and the incomparable Woody Mann. He discovered his true passion with his love for American country blues, and a reverence for piedmont ragtime and delta blues styles.
Since returning home Peter has developed a reputation as one of Michigan’s up and coming country blues artists, mastering a style that stays true to the country blues sounds of 80 to 90 years ago while giving these songs a “new life all their own.” Also, during his sets he’ll add a creative twist by incorporating a variety of instrumentals from guitarists such as Leo Kottke and John Fahey, as well as originals. Peter’s rich baritone voice blends wonderfully with finger pickin’ and slide guitar, played on resonator, 6 & 12 string guitars. He plays regularly at many venues throughout Northern Michigan from Traverse City to the “bridge.”
