Tangerine Dream Biography

Tangerine Dream are a German electronic music group founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The band has undergone several personnel changes over the years, with Froese the only continuous member. Drummer and composer Klaus Schulze was a member of an early lineup, but the most stable version of the group during their influential mid-1970s period was as a keyboard trio with Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. Early in the 1980s, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann, and this lineup, too, was stable and extremely productive. In more recent years Edgar has been joined by his son Jerome Froese and Thorsten Quaeschning for studio work, other guest musicians join them for live work, including Linda Spa on sax and flute and Iris Camaa on percussion and electronic drums.

Tangerine Dream's early "Pink Years" albums, originally released on the German OHR label had a pivotal role in the development of krautrock. Their "Virgin Years" and later albums became a defining influence in new age Music and some ambient techno. The group are still producing new studio work and are currently in the planning stages of a world tour to mark their 40th anniversary (2007-08), starting in London on april 20th 2007 at the London Astoria theatre, with two additional dates in Germany in July (Free Open air concert in Eberswalde Market Square) and October (At the Alte Oper in Frankfurt on Main).
