About this concert
Bree van Reyk x Mick Turner will play Phoenix Central Park on 23 May 2023. Free tickets via ballot. Bree van Reyk and Mick Turner debut as an instrumental duo, performing music from van Reyk’s Superclusters alongside new collaborative works. Superclusters, released in 2022 on Hobbledehoy Records, features Turner as well as his Dirty Three bandmate, Jim White, violinist Véronique Serret, and approximately 20 of this country’s leading improvising musicians from the avant-jazz, classical and improvisational worlds. Mick Turner is a Melbourne/Naarm artist and musician, known primarily as guitarist with internationally acclaimed instrumental group Dirty Three. Bree van Reyk is a drummer, percussionist and composer who lives and works on Gadigal land. This special one-off live performance of Superclusters features tracks from the album in exploded form, exploring the connections and counterpoints between the rich and sonorous landscapes of Turner’s unique guitar playing, and the avant-classical & sound-art textures of van Reyk’s percussion-led compositions. Taking the album collaboration as a departure point, the pair will also premiere new duo works.
