Great bunch of guys. Need to get them down here more often. Most of the crowd had not heard of them but they loved the sound.

Brushfire Stankgrass Biography

Mixing analog effects with bluegrass backbeats, the music of Brushfire Stankgrass is instantly unique. The band’s debut album, “One for the Salamanders,” reached #2 on the Relix and jambands.com airplay charts in 2011, remaining in the top 5 for two months. The album also was voted as one of the top 100 albums of 2010 by WNCW listeners and was a top ten regional release of the year. “One for the Salamanders” is currently available from all major online music stores. A track from their 2011 Studio B performance was recently picked for WNCW’s famed “Crowd Around the Mic” compilation series for 2011/2012. Brushfire Stankgrass has headlined The City of Asheville’s 4th of July celebration three times. The group has performed extensively around the region including shows at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival, Bele Chere, the Durham World Beer Festival, Shakori Hills, the Winter Warmer Festival, the French Broad River Festival, Asheville’s Downtown After 5, the Getdown, and several of the most notable venues throughout the southeast. Mountain Xpress reader polls have placed Brushfire Stankgrass in the prestigious “Best of WNC” on several occasions, including the “Best bluegrass/oldtime” category and “Best band you haven’t heard of yet.” A Brushfire Stankgrass performance is an expression of joy and musical exploration. The Saylor brothers began playing music at the age of three, and have been composing together for as long as they can remember. Their original compositions are playful, honest, and decorated by banjo and guitar textures spiced with digital and Moog analog effects and samples. Excitement is embodied by the powerful and jazz-influenced rhythm section. Their music is immediately accessible yet tough to compare or categorize. It is memorable and catchy, comfortable but adventurous, carefully composed yet full of improvisation. Brushfire looks forward to an exciting year ahead, with more festival stops and the release of their much anticipated second album. “From the first notes, Salamanders reveals itself to be carefully crafted. Fans of bluegrass, jazz, and jam will not be disappointed by the dynamic and indefatigable sessions collected among the 11 songs.” -Ali Marshall – Mountain Xpress "By blending traditional bluegrass with elements of trance and classic rock, Brushfire Stankgrass creates a savory package with “One for the Salamanders.” - J. Evan Wade, Homegrown Music Network (Nov 16, 2010) “This eclectic inventive bluegrass band gave an impressive daytime performance. I have heard the term “trance mountain dub” which can kind of give a description of their sound. I call it raging bluegrass that seamlessly meshed into some good dancing music.” -Brad Wincoff, Homegrown Music Network Grass powered boogie from Asheville, NC
