About this concert
Manila-born, Australia-based R&B/soul artist Cap Carter is an honest, unapologetic singer/songwriter who is not afraid to bare his soul. Over the past few years, he’s been connecting with audiences by sharing his story through music - documenting the highs and the lows with vivid songwriting and deeply emotional vocals. With just a handful of singles and a debut EP 2021’s ‘Notes’ to his name, Cap has built a genuine relationship with his fans. They have resonated with his stories of addiction, heartbreak, and, personal growth as well as his dedication to communicating with them. The quick growth of his career is a testament to his ability to connect with a voice that demands to be heard. It’s powerful and textured with a lived-in experience that’s impossible to engineer. Cap describes his music as, “Gut wrenchingly raw street poetry.” Most would shy away from the raw topics that he addresses within his music but he’s a brave songwriter driven by the catharsis of it.His latest single ‘Sequel’ addresses a particularly tough time in his life. In 2021, as his music was continuing to spread, Cap spent much of his time in rehab working on, “unlearning behaviours that I had picked up from childhood,” as he puts it. While there, he was encouraged to write a letter to his younger self as part of the healing process. He took the letter as an opportunity to tell himself that everything was going to be okay and that letter became ‘Sequel’. As a result, it’s a heart-rendering ballad that tackles difficult subjects but ultimately harnesses a mood of optimism and hope. It’s his second single of the year following on from heartbreak anthem ‘Reasons’. “No brother of mine will die twice,” he sings, Cap’s empowering voice swelling with emotion. The song was first revealed to fans through his live EP ‘Live Vol.1’, released earlier this year, but now it’s arrived with its full production. He worked on the song with Xavier Dunn (Jack River, CXLOE, Graace) and it came to life within a day. “[Dunn] came up with this brilliant idea to channel the past two years for good rather than bad,” he says. That may be true of this single but it’s also a running motif that threads through all of his music so far. As dark as it can get, there’s an air of optimism that always rises above. His 2021 EP ‘Notes’ is an emotional listen but it’s brightened by moments of uplift like on single ‘Guns’ where he sings, “Baby have no fear I know you’ve paid your dues.”On the closer ‘Hope’ he declares, “Your boys about to breakthrough,” over a bone-rattling, soulful beat. He’s not naive about the difficult process of getting to this stage, that’s well documented across his music, but he paints a picture of a positive future. It’s perhaps why he’s quickly found a strong fanbase that not only resonates with his struggles but also his positivity. “Seeing people embrace where they’re at in life - be present and not be afraid of feeling their feelings has been absolutely surreal,” he says of his fans.He currently has over 300,000 followers on TikTok and a total of 400,000 across all social media accounts. He also boasts 10 million streams globally and 1.7 million YouTube views. Earlier this year, he captivated audiences by making his debut performance on Channel 10’s national TV show ‘Studio 10’. This only tell part of the story, however, as he’s made it his mission to connect with fans in real life. His ‘Sequel’ national tour has seen him take on his biggest venues yet after extra demand forced an upgrade of venues. It’s been a big year of tour for Cap, beginning with a series of intimate shows in Sydney, Tasmania, Brisbane, and Melbourne. They were all held in secret locations with the venue announced to fans via his mailing list. It saw him play in venues like fans’ living rooms and car parks. He also performed in more traditional venues as part of an East Coast tour which sold out even after extra shows were added to cater for the demand. That’s all on top of a support slot for Atlanta artist Teddy Swims who was performing on his very first headline tour in the country.Next year, he’s setting his sites on global shows. He’s currently working his way towards funding a US tour through merch sales and other crowdfunding initiatives. He’s also set to visit the UK with British fans hoping for more of the intimate shows that he played in Australia. As Cap’s influence continues to grow, he’s focused on self-growth and forging a new future driven by music.“Moving forward has been the key inspiration lately,” he says.“I feel like for the first time - in a very long time, I’m where I’m supposed to be.”

Cap Carter Biography

Cap Carter is an Australian singer-songwriter known for his gritty soul vocals and emotive lyrics.

"I was by myself for a long time that year. Locked myself up internally, lost count of the bottles and tried to figure out what the hell was going on with life. I wrote. I screamed every word till I felt like my soul was healing. That is what my music is - a soul cleanse. A plea for some sort of tourniquet to stop the bleeding."

Born in Manila and raised in Western Sydney, Cap Carter is an Australian singer-songwriter, reminiscent of the icons of the genre. His haunting and soulful melodies recall Joni Mitchell, his introspective lyrics of Paul Simon. Honing his signature impassioned vocals and raw, stripped-back acoustics, Cap’s love for modern alternative hip hop production has flavoured his sound with the influence of Kanye West and Post Malone. The result is an artist carving his own unapologetic path, heart on his sleeve, ready to make us cry.
