About this concert
Tekla Waterfield with full band: Seattle based singer/songwriter, 2018 Listen Up! Women in Music grant recipient, and 2019 Jack Straw Cultural Center recording artist grant recipient, Tekla Waterfield incorporates elements of folk, country, indie, rhythm and blues, and soul creating a wide-ranging sound unified by her dynamic vocals and point-of-view storytelling. Waterfield self-released one solo album before establishing a life-changing partnership with her powerhouse multi-instrumentalist/producer husband Jeff Fielder (Mark Lanegan, Amy Ray, Indigo Girls). The two released Waterfield's 2018 album, "The Curtain Falls", garnering radio play and critical acclaim, as well as song placement in the award-winning indie film, "Dakota", for the song, "Rock and Roll Man", with the music video for song, "Nice Try" being selected by the Seattle International Film Festival and One Reel for screening at the 2019 Bumbershoot Music Festival. The duo released their first ever project under both names, "Trouble In Time", in January of 2021. "Trouble In Time" received glowing reviews nationally and internationally from such publications as No Depression and American Songwriter, with radio play on NPR’s World Cafe, KEXP and much more. Waterfield is releasing her third solo LP, “New Skies” September of 2021, again with production and performances contributed by her husband and musical partner, Jeff Fielder. Kelly McFarling (SF) with full band: Kelly McFarling makes songs for long drives and fault lines. Born in Atlanta and based in the Bay Area, McFarling gives weight to wistfulness and renders the small and ordinary in ultra-vivid color. With a sound that moves between folk, rock, and alt-country, McFarling’s vocals are the constant: warm, assured, often breathtakingly strong. Deep the Habit (March 2021), McFarling’s latest, captures the freewheeling feel of live shows with her band. Sparked by the idea of a feminine take on JJ Cale or Dire Straits, McFarling’s contribution to that corner of the canon infuses it with softness and vulnerability. There are hooks with just enough pop-sheen to conjure Stevie Nicks or even Pat Benetar; but we also get threads of more modern alt-country and indie-folk, like Hiss Golden Messenger or Molly Sarlé. With very special guests Ayesha Musicbox Brooks and Darren Loucas opening.
