About this concert
PORTICO QUARTET
No matter how hard you try to categorise the Portico Quartet, their constantly evolving, protean music remains elusive.
Since their formation in the mid-2000s, the London band has seduced with its original instrumental configuration, where the hang, that futuristic descendant of the steel drum, rubs shoulders with double bass, drums, saxophone and piano.
From the static and minimalist pieces of their beginnings, their sound has evolved towards increasingly free cinematographic panoramas, between acoustic and electronic, propelled by a rhythmic with hypnotic powers.
A fascinating journey to the frontiers of jazz and ambient music, which will take its full scope on stage.

Portico Quartet Biography
Portico Quartet have defied categorisation over the course of six studio albums. From their 2007 Mercury Music Prize nominated breakthrough ‘Knee-Deep in the North Sea’ through to the longform minimalist inspired ‘Terrain’ in 2021.
Their new electronic driven album Monument shows the band at their most direct, with a streamlined, rhythmic sound. Full of precisely sculpted ideas combining human touch with electronic efficiency, ‘Monument’ displays the acclaimed widescreen minimalists at their best.
