Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band Biography

BrownChicken BrownCow StringBand is a West Virginia band. Xander Hitzig, Justin Morris, Orion Hitzig, Matt Del Olmo, and Kat Fountain are BrownChicken. They began performing on stage during the Spring of 2008. The Boys performed a handful public shows in Southern West Virginia before the Brothers Hitzig moved to Maui, Hawaii and changed the destiny of the band forever. The original Tribe was Xander Hitzig, Justin Morris, Orion Hitzig, Charlie Hatcher, and Matthew Del Olmo. Terrence Zimmerman, Chance McCoy, and Dave Sweet were around a lot during the formation of the band and it should be known that their musical magician-ship also helped shape the roots of BrownChicken BrownCow StringBand. BrownChicken gelled as a group fast, effortlessly. It was easy because it was a group of good people that loved music, laughing, being social and partying. During late evening jams at various back porches and campfires the band was born. The boys spent a lot of time together, the results of which quickly began to show up in the music. This particular group of people really care about the music and each other... it's a family; or as they call it: "Tribe". In the beginning everyone was playing as much music as possible in the evenings after their day jobs cut them loose. Once folks would get done for the day, the phones would start ringing and plans to do some pickin' were always in the in the air. BrownChicken BrownCow StringBand had just become a local presence in West Virginia when Xander and Orion wanted to go explore and travel. The Brothers moved to Maui and began playing music on the sidewalks of Paia. Justin stayed behind for six weeks and produced the bands first album by mixing down recordings from the early days in his home studio in Lewisburg, WV. Two months later the tribe of three; Orion, Justin, and Xander reunited in Maui and released their first album: "Fruit Goggles"- 2009. The group began the next chapter as a three piece (Fiddle, Guitar, and Mandolin). It was not long after being in Maui that the boys met Steve Sargenti and became close friends with him while playing music and living on his property in Haiku. Steve was one of the most positive influences the group has ever had, always pushing the boys to write more, sing more, play more etc... Not only has Steve recorded on the past two BrownChicken albums, but he also coined the phrase that the band looks upon and remembers so often while on their journey; "We've done so much, for so long, with so little, that we can now do anything with nothing!" - Thanks Steve. The band lived on Maui for 9 months that first visit, and before they left for the mainland they had united an overwhelmingly loyal audience that loved BrownChicken music, filled venues, and rocked the Island. You would hear stories of them performing in the East Jungles for small gatherings of people trading their time and talents for local hospitality. Relationships, memories, stories, and songs are the fruit of their travels. Charlie flew out and played 12 shows on up-right bass while the band was still in Hawaii and also performed the first cross country tour back to West Virginia. After that first trip across the country the band returned to performing as a three piece and continued touring all over the country. Since the day they left West Virginia the group has continued to live on the road playing music everyday for 3 1/2 years full-time releasing three albums including "Fruit Goggles" -2009 "Gallup On You" - 2010, and "It's a Deep Subject" - 2010. After minimal arm twisting Matt Del Olmo rejoined the band to make BrownChicken a quartet again in September 2011 and released their forth album "Live From Paia Tattoo Parlor" - 2011. Matt's multi-instrumental contribution to the group has been awesome and is still unfolding. During Matt's first Hawaiin tour "The Ice Cream Tour with Coconut Glen" in 2010, the band met harmonica player/singer Katharine Fountain, formerly of "The Bucky Walters", a band based out of CA. Since their first meeting, Kat has toured on and off with the band including New Orleans, New York, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and many more venues to come. Kat began as an always welcome musical guest to the BrownChicken Stage and is now a full time BrownChicken. The BrownChicken Train across the United States Coast to Coast over 15 times, continuing to make yearly appearances in Hawaii including Maui, Big Island, Kauai, and Molokai. BrownChicken even put Puerto Rico on their tour schedule for the first time in 2011. BrownChicken BrownCow StringBand is completely independent and travels, books there own shows, performs, composes, and records all on their own dollar and steam. Currently BrownChicken BrownCow StringBand lives on the road traveling, performing, and taking in each moment as it comes. The Tribe is on a Mission... Good Times, Good Friends, with a Soundtrack
