About this concert
After announcing his debut EP, Melbourne’s own Wilson Blackley is getting ready to set the stage and celebrate with his first ever interstate show at Golden Age Cinema on September 17th. After the release of debut single ‘Home’, a stunning sold out first headline show at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel in 2021, festival performances at NYE On The Hill and Ocean Sounds along side acts such as The Teskey Brothers, Boy and Bear, Alice Ivy and more, and label and bookings signings with THAA Records, Select Music, respectively; Wilson began collaborating on his debut EP with Sensible J (Sampa The Great, Cool Out Sun, House Of Beige). Blackley says, “We approached this record like writing a love letter to all the music I grew up listening to as a kid”. Capturing the nostalgic sound of soul records from the 60’s and 70’s but also tapping into Wilson’s authentic love for sonic exploration. Tickets on sale now!

Wilson Blackley Biography
Born in the hilly region of South Gippsland, Victoria, Wilson Blackley's musical journey started from an early age, picking up his first pair of drumsticks at the age of two. He was raised on his mother's record collection, listening to a large variety of genres. From acts like The Beatles, Elton John and Jimi Hendrix to the Stax and Motown collection, Wilson developed an ear for the classic sounds of that era.
At the age of five he picked up a guitar for the first time, opening up a whole new world of possibilities. Fast forward to the tender age of 15, Wilson started gigging around Victoria and wrote a set of songs which would later materialise into his Debut EP “Elephant” which was released in 2018 to great reception. In 2019 he released a single called “Fall” which made it to number #2 on the Triple J Unearthed charts.
“My heart just fell out of my chest and through the floor.” - Nkechi Anele (triple j)
Wilson has already gained impressive live opportunities including festivals such as NYE on The Hill and Festival of Small Halls as well as supporting some of the greatest and most timeless Australian acts such as The Black Sorrows and Mental as Anything, internationals The Once (CA) on top of many more greatly accomplished local acts.
Wilson’s songs walk a line between love and pain, he provokes his audience's imaginations, reinventing the spaces in which he performs. He describes his music as,
"Not too happy but also not too sad. It's a constant push and pull between the two that I feel gives me that ‘modern-yet-not’ sound"
Wilson is in the process of writing his debut album with the first single looking to be released in late 2020 and he can’t wait to share it with you.
