About this concert
Doors Time: 07:00 PM Start Time: 08:00 PM COVID-19: There will still be some Covid restrictions in place for this show, how strict they will be is not yet clear. We will therefore sell tickets in groups to maximise capacity and adjust the ticketing structure if we need to once we have more clarity, Please be aware that this is likely be an outdoor event in our tented (heated if necessary) space. Ellie Gowers has been making an impression wherever she lands. Her music embeds a fierce energy that echoes the 60’s folk revival scene and she is known to hold pride of place on stage with her strong and lucent vocals. Her songs are built from a childhood love of literature and traditional folk song, but also discuss the more modern narratives of the present day. These influences fuse together to create a sound that has been deemed unique and incomparable. In the last two years, Ellie has released the EP From Here on Out and followed that with her latest single Against the Tide which earned her a TEDx talk. These songs have been toured widely, both in headline shows and support slots for critically acclaimed artists. After the unpredictable circumstances that 2020 brought with it, Ellie found herself making good use of her time, beginning to work on projects she had only ever thought about. Collaborations were done with friends new and old, songs were written, a festival was played, and she was also included in the line up of the Filkin’s Drift Ensemble, covering Arthur McBride. Ellie enters 2021 with a brand new EP named Parting Breath, which was released in March. “A strong, crystal clear voice… an act to watch” (Bristol 24/7) “The absolute control and delicacy of her performance was amazing to watch” (Visit Coventry) “One young woman made a big impression on us this year. Ellie Gowers’ exquisite voice and unique vocal style was absolutely mesmerising. She’s one to watch.” (Love Shrewsbury on Shrewsbury Folk Festival) “Thank goodness Ellie doesn’t sound particularly like any other performer” (Hot Music Live)

Ellie Gowers Biography

Ellie Gowers is a UK-based songwriter and guitarist. Growing up in verdant Warwickshire, it’s easy to hear that her music is fed by an early love of literature and her pastoral surroundings. Ellie’s writing delves into ecological, sociological, and personal themes, all nestled in amongst storytelling. Described as sensitive and tender, but not without a fiery edge; Ellie has been labelled as dynamic, captivating, and one to watch.

Her 2019 single ‘Against the Tide’ (included on her EP release ‘Parting Breath’) garnered rave reviews and extensive airplay across BBC R2, Scotland, and Introducing. It even earned her a Tedx Talk. Between all of this, and with the time that lockdown allowed, Ellie poured all of her energy into her passion project: ‘Dwelling by the Weir’. A collection of songs that celebrates the stories and people of her home county. From ecological devastation to communities persevering together to husband-poisoning-wives; this album weaves the past, present and future together and was toured around the UK to audiences, picking up national airplay and reviews.

Off the stage, Ellie has worked with BBC R3, composing a commissioned piece for a retelling of George Eliot’s Middlemarch in 2022. A busy time for her, as she also toured the UK as Blair Dunlop’s special guest on his 20-date UK spring tour. Throughout 2023, she has been Warwick Arts Centre’s artist-in-residence; leading workshops and indulging in exciting collaborations.
She ties up the year with a new single release, The Stars Are Ours, a live session on BBC R2, and a UK tour.
