Joe Kye

Hillsboro Parks & Rec Presents: Violinist, looper, and vocalist Joe Kye presents an uplifting, educational, and engaging virtual performance exploring what it means to be Asian-American. In the current climate of anti-Asian sentiment in the US, it is vitally important for us to examine and counter the wave of xenophobia with informed compassion. Kye’s program does exactly that, with his trademark inclusive, uplifting music interspersed with personal anecdotes and a slideshow of what it was like to grow up as an Asian immigrant. With gentle humor and vulnerability, Kye explores the idea of the model minority myth through song and stories, challenging viewers to build coalitions across social boundaries to create a more just and loving society. Viewers will also have opportunities to interact with Kye through a Q&A as well as a tour of his home studio.
