Rebekah Speer Biography

Hailing from Lincolnton, Georgia, Rebekah Speer thrives these days in Nashville, Tennessee. Over the past few years, she's marked her musical journey with significant milestones. Her debut solo album, titled "Here I Am," made waves, yielding a Top 20 Bluegrass Unlimited hit with the track "Ain't Life Sweet." Adding to her accomplishments, Rebekah spent a month hosting the Bluegrass Ridge TV program on the Heartland TV network, where two music videos from her debut album found a regular rotation. As her debut album continues to make its mark on the Roots Music Report charts, she's already launching her second solo venture, "Run Away," under the LUK Records label.

In the midst of life's ups and downs over the past year, Rebekah Long has channeled her experiences into the songs of her latest album. Guided by Donna Ulisse, who once again took on production duties and co-wrote many of the tracks, this project reflects the trials Rebekah has faced in recent years. A talented ensemble contributes to the music, with Scott Vestal on banjo, Mike Bub on upright bass, Patrick McAvenue on fiddle and mandolin, and Cody Kilby showcasing his acoustic guitar prowess. Additional instrumental brilliance shines through with Shad Cobb's fiddling, Mark Fain's bass expertise, and Jarrod Walker's mandolin artistry. Throughout the album, harmonies from Donna and her husband Rick Stanley blend seamlessly, while Gene McDonald adds his impressive bass vocals.

In a display of genuine connection between life and art, Rebekah Long weaves fragments of her own experiences into several selections on this album. Take, for instance, the lively "Georgia Bound," an infectious toe-tapper that expresses her longing to revisit her hometown. For those acquainted with Rebekah's Facebook updates, "Fishin' On The Cumberland" (co-written with Jerry Salley and Donna Ulisse) vividly portrays her deep affinity for the great outdoors, exuding a feel-good spirit that resonates.

Of course, the album delves into the shadows as well, touching upon the themes of loss and heartache. Tracks like "Woodland Street" and "A Place Beyond The Clouds" reflect the poignant emotions stemming from the passing of her husband, Ben Speer, within the past year. The melancholic melodies of "Every Time I Fall Asleep" and "Welcome Me Back Home" further explore notions of longing, regret, and hope.

Amidst the introspection, Rebekah delivers the upbeat and catchy "I've Seen The Light," skillfully infusing her love story with a clever lyrical twist that's sure to enthrall listeners, inviting them to join in the chorus. Her versatility shines through as she masterfully claims Elton John and Bernie Taupin's "Honky Cat" as her own, and her rendition of Loudon Wainwright's "The Swimming Song" captures the essence of a fresh, summery morning by the water's edge.

A true tribute and standout moment within this collection is the duet between Rebekah Long and her late husband Ben Speer in the spirited "Lay Your Isaac Down." This collaboration seamlessly blends Rebekah's affinity for bluegrass and Ben's passion for gospel music, resulting in a touching memory that resonates deeply.

With her newly formed band, audiences can anticipate encountering Rebekah Long at festivals and various performance venues. There, they'll be treated to her infectious humor, boundless energy, and, above all, her remarkable delivery of exceptional music.
