Joshua Scott Jones Biography

Joshua Scott Jones was formerly one half of Steel Magnolia, an American country music duo that won season two of the CMT television talent show Can You Duet. Steel Magnolia signed with Big Machine Records in 2009 and released “Keep On Loving You”, a Top 10 hit on the US Billboard Hot Country charts. Top 30 singles also included “Just By Being You” and “Last Night Again.” Among numerous nominations for Vocal Duo of the Year, Duo Video of the Year, and Top New Vocal Duo, Steel Magnolia also debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in October 2009 before parting ways in 2013.

After Steel Magnolia, Jones went on to produce and record four solo albums. The Healing was recorded at both the Historic RCA Studio B and 1st Avenue Sound. The album was released in 2014, and featured the single ‘Honk (If You’re Tonky)”. It was followed by the video, which was directed by Aaron Thomas with Jones’ artistic expression stemming from Beyonce’s video “Single Ladies”.

Jones’ second record The Rural Deal was released in 2017. Due to lacking budget, he played many of the instruments on these tracks, including drums, banjo, harmonica, guitars, bass, and piano/keyboard. Several singles outside of that album were also released the same year.

In 2019 his third album How The Story Goes was released. Jones’ latest single off that album is titled “Honky Tonk Night”. Coming to him in a dream, he wrote and then recorded the single at Omni Sound in Nashville. It was co-produced by Tom Bukovac, featuring Rich Redmond on drums. Jones produced and directed the video for Honky Tonk Night, which spent time in rotation on CMT Music.

Outlier Circa 1980, Jones’ fourth album, is a stripped-down acoustic record. Released Spring 2020, it’s the accumulation of artistic expression and nuance pulled from the trials and tribulations of his roots. Each song is recorded live, without any production, which is something Jones had always wanted to accomplish: an artist, and his guitar.

Jones’ rootsy, country-rock style is constantly evolving, and as an artist does, is working on future projects.
