Koi Biography

2001 two young aesthetes named Patrik and Markus from the Gothenburg suburbs smashed their heads together, giving birth to a spontanious thought of starting a band. At this point it was all about cool lyrical phrases that made absolutely no sense, but rhymed nicely with obscure words from the dictionary, coming up with clever band names like 13itter and awesome band logos along with them! Obviously the idea and goal was very different back then, pushing technical abilities. Another project was born shortly after this between Patrik and Eemu, who started out playing guitar with competing who could play Metallica solos with the least amount of fuckups. These two paths would eventually slowly slide together, at the end colliding, causing the big bang of Koi. Through various of school projects along first came Joni and then Roberd, and Koi took form. We started out strictly as a metal band, but very early on the advantages of not being restricted by any musical boundaries became clear to us. Still at the end of the day what's equally or even more important and what we aim for, is to always have something that identifies us to write meaningful music with a direction, trying to perfectly connect everything, to have a red line, feeling or thought behind every piece. It would be impossible for me to shortly sum us up as a band somehow, since nothing is carved in stone, everything we write is what we felt like writing when we wrote it. Our only guideline is to try to make something new and fresh, surprise ourselves, to find those special chills that get fewer yet stronger the deeper you dig. Our goal will be to try and prove that everything in music has not been done yet! http://www.koi.band http://www.youtube.com/user/KoiChannel http://myspace.com/koichannel
