Roseland Biography

Roseland is the union between virtuoso singer and songsmith Azam Ali (Niyaz, Vas) and accomplished film composer/producer Tyler Bates (300, Dawn of the Dead, Rob Zombie's Halloween). Juxtaposing ambient electronic textures with intoxicating vocal melodies and driving hypnotic rhythms, Roseland’s music is the expression of a truly unique artistic collaboration. While their music has been compared to Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees, meet Led Zeppelin, no likeness conveys the cinematic essence of Azam’s haunting voice and evocative lyrics, which reflect the sorrow of war, self-doubt, and the personal experiences and relationships that shape and mold our psyches. Tyler Bates: With more than forty film and television scores to his credit, Bates’ inventive style has become the visceral cornerstone of projects including Zack Snyder's 300, Rob Zombie’s forthcoming fresh take on the horror classic, Halloween, Showtime’s new dark comedy, Californication, which stars David Duchovny, and Liquid Entertaiment's 2008 release of Rise of the Argonauts for the major video-gaming systems. In addition, this fall Bates will begin work on Zack Snyder’s much-anticipated film Watchmen. Azam Ali: Born in Iran and a student in India from age four, Azam moved to LA to begin her musical career as a teenager. She released four albums with her “alternative world” music group Vas (Narada Records) as well as her first solo album, Portals Of Grace, which charted in the Billboard top 100 for twelve weeks. Azam’s second solo album, Elysium for the Brave, was received with critical acclaim, and pushed her total record sales in excess of 250,000 units. She is world-renowned for her voice that Billboard magazine describes as “a glorious, unforgettable instrument.” Azam has collaborated with artists Serj Tankian of System of a Down, The Crystal Method, Pat Mastellato and Trey Gunn of King Crimson, Ben Watkins of Juno Reactor, Buckethead, the Japanese group Kodo, and Mickey Hart to name a few. She can also be heard on myriad film and television scores including Matrix Revolutions, Dawn of the Dead, Alias, and The Agency, and most recently on Tyler Bates’ score for Zack Snyder’s 300, which has shipped more than 150,000 units to date. Azam is enjoying great success with her “world-electronic group” Niyaz, released on Six Degrees Records. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/roseland
