At The National Cherry Festival
Traverse City (March 14th, 2022)- Announced this morning by Executive Director, Kat Paye the National Cherry Festival will be adding to a week of priceless entertainment with Nelly on Tuesday July 5th on the Pepsi Bay Side Music Stage presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “It was not a ‘Dilemma’ to bring Nelly back to the lineup and we are excited for him to bring his energy once again”, said Kat Paye.
Diamond Selling, Multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning rap superstar, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and actor, Nelly, has continually raised the bar for the entertainment industry since stepping on the scene in 2000 with his distinctive vocals and larger-than-life personality. His collaboration with Florida Georgia Line received Diamond status and he is only one of seven rappers to reach this honor.
Nelly embarked on his music career with Midwest hip hop group St. Lunatics, in 1993 and signed to Universal Records in 1999. Nelly entered the spotlight with the release of Country Grammar in 2000, spending seven weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and spawning the massive hits “Ride Wit Me”, “Country Grammar”, and “E.I.”. The album landed Nelly four Grammy Award nominations and sold over nine million copies worldwide. Country Grammar is Nelly's best-selling album to date, selling over 8.4 million copies in the United States.

Enjoy a full buffet meal, prepared on site by our outstanding Artist Hospitality Chef and themed around that night’s entertainment. Never leave your seat! Our volunteers will be around to check on you while you enjoy the National Cherry Festival show on the Pepsi Bay Side Music Stage presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. I wish Nelly would have had merchandise to purchase.
The venue did not do a good job at listing times for the artists. It was hard to get drinks etc because you didn't know when nelly was actually going to start.
Nelly did a great job as usual. I wish I could have finally had a chance to meet him as this was the 4th time I had seen him.
The venus once again did not do a great job with his acoustics. Ashanti's was fine but they play the bass, etc way too loud for a small indoor venue.
I wish Nelly was able to play a longer set since he has so many hits that he didn't get to sing. Not sure who controls that.

Name at birth: Cornell Haynes, Jr.
Nelly became a hip-hop and pop superstar after the success of his solo 2000 release, Country Grammar. The album spawned three big hits (including "Ride Wit Me") and three Grammy awards and Nelly became an MTV favorite, recognized by a stylish band-aid on one cheek in the memory of his good friend City Spud, who he collaborated with on "Ride Wit Me". His second effort, Nellyville, (2002) was equally successful. It included the hits "Dilemma" and "Hot in Herre" and was nominated for five Grammy awards, including Album of the Year. In 2004 Nelly released two albums at the same time, Sweat and Suit, and in September they briefly held the two top spots on the charts. Nelly has been equally active as a businessman; among other ventures, in 2003 he released his own energy drink called "Pimp Juice," and in 2004 he became a minority owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats basketball team. He is also the CEO of Derrty Entertainment, his own company formed in 2003.
Extra credit: Nelly has been publicly coy about his year of birth, and does not list it in his official biography; however, in 2003 a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper reported that he would celebrate his 25th birthday that year.
