About this concert
Would you like a Moment's Peace? You are invited to a Complimentary Harp Meditation at Brookwood Community centre. Hazel Glen Room, 25 Hazel Glen Dr, Doreen VIC 3754 on Friday March the 19th at 7pm. Michael Johnson, harpist and composer from the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, is currently gauging interest regarding hosting regular Friday night Harp Meditations in the Whittlesea and Nillumbik community. To introduce these regular sessions, you are invited to attend a free Harp Meditation at Brookwood House in Doreen. These sessions involve the use of gentle harp music as a tool to practice Mindfulness Meditation followed by a meditative concert in a relaxed and informal setting. They require no musical or meditation experience. The sessions will be held regularly at Brookwood Community house in Doreen on Fridays at 7pm. There has been much research on the benefits of using music to mediate the "Monkey-Mind," a term often referred to as the state of ruminating on the same repetitive thoughts during stressful times. Whether it be sating a need to encourage one's feelings of wellbeing, or to deepen your current practice of Mindfulness, Harp Meditations are the most relaxing way to regulate a busy mind. Michael has been a key member of the therapeutic team at The Gawler Foundation for over thirty years with his highly valued music based mindfulness meditation sessions and retreats. He has been conducting these meditation sessions for most of The Gawler Foundation retreats and conferences as well as at Delmont Psychiatric Hospital reaching more than ten thousand people during this time. Regular retreat participants comment on how much they benefit from Michael’s approach to mindfulness. “...Michael has a special gift to tune into the energies of each group, while adapting to the needs of the individual participants...” As well as an established concert performer in major venues throughout Australia, he has been running the Harp in the Gardens program at the Botanic Gardens. And now the gardens are embracing Michael's other hat and holding Harp Meditations within the garden throughout the warmer months. Even though there is no cost for this session, booking is still essential. Please register for the Harp Meditations by clicking below: or phone Michael on 0407 302 771

Michael Johnson (Biography)

"…This music is so deeply moving and so ethereal in its beauty..."
3PBS Melbourne

Michael Johnson has been composing and recording since 1976. Originally performing as a rock musician in Melbourne music venues, he later moved to utilising his skills as a multi instrumental performer, touring with a trio in Victoria and South Australia. Here he was introduced to the harp and never looked back....

He is the instigator of Lyrebird Music (the recording label) and Twilight Music (the concert series).

He plays various instruments but is probably best known for his work on the harp. His concerts and recordings feature this instrument but also include percussion, guitar, piano and various classical and world music instruments. Michael should be familiar to audiences throughout Australia. His compositions are regularly aired on national radio and television.

He has been the resident musician at a number of locations (Including Healesville Sanctuary). For over a decade Michael has been stationed at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, performing in the “harp the Gardens” recitals and "Twilight Music" concerts, providing his music for thousands of overseas guests and visitors to the gardens.

As well as a concert performer, Michael has been working in the field of music for meditation . His tranquil harp music has been an integral part of the Mindfulness Music program at the Gawler Foundation for over twenty years.
