Grammy-nominated fiddler Bruce Molsky, “widely regarded as one of the best living practitioners of Appalachian old-time fiddling” (WBUR), and violist and master fiddler Mickael Marin (of the Swedish band Väsen) come together for a joyous Stockholm-to-New York afternoon of camaraderie and fiddling. Mikael and Bruce will dig deep into new and traditional Swedish and American tunes and songs, and will share their stories that go with them. Mikael Marin’s and Bruce’s musical paths have crisscrossed many times, and each has left a strong mark on the other. In 2013 they toured as a trio along with Ånon Egeland, the great Norwegian fiddler. The music was a confluence of Swedish, Norwegian and American styles that had their audiences on the edges of their seats, and the trio on their toes. The two also recorded and toured with hardanger innovator Annbjørg Lien for her acclaimed album, “Waltz With Me.” Collaborative concerts, music sessions and hours around the kitchen table have strengthened their friendship. In addition to their work as performers, both Marin and Molsky continue to instruct at various string and fiddle camps across the globe, sharing their knowledge and passion with the next generation of fiddle players. The session is part of “Bruce Molsky: We Went to Different Schools Together,” a series of virtual home concerts with stories, where Molsky is joined by a different artist and friend who holds a special place in his musical life.
