Luke Marshall Biography

"Intimate and raw...If you haven’t heard of Luke Marshall, I recommend you change that" - Caitlin Ellen, This Is Radelaide.

Luke Marshall is a singer-songwriter and visual artist based in Port Lincoln, Australia. Drawing on emotions, nature’s beauty and experiences his music can be best described as Dreamy Alternative Folk. Born in Central Australia and growing up in a coastal town, there has always been a strong connection with the land and sea. Having a natural understanding of how powerful sounds and words can be, songwriting became a way to express emotion and process the world around him.

Travelling through Europe, Luke was captivated by street performers and musicians and the profound effect art can have on us. This experience inspired Luke to continue writing and begin sharing his music with the world leading to his first EP, ‘Forest By The Sea’ (Sept, 2015).

Inspired by artists City and Colour, Gregory Alan Isakov, Bonobo and Ry X, Luke’s live performance is intimate & enchanting with open expressions of love, loss & vulnerability creating a dream state connection.

Luke says: “Performing live for people is such an elevating experience, being able to tell a story and transcend communication barriers. Music is a powerful energy that is shared by the performer and audience, an energy that is beautiful and unique to each show”

In 2018 Luke was awarded a Recording Grant by the SA State Government which allowed him to travel to Berlin and record his second EP, ‘Shelter & Rain’ with hometown friend Lucas Laufen.

He celebrated the release with a National Headline tour over the 2018/19 Aussie summer. Since releasing his first single in 2015, his music has been streamed over 17,500 times on Spotify from 1,100 different listeners across 45 different countries.

He has received 4 star reviews on Triple J Unearthed, radio airplay across the country & sold out his Adelaide Fringe Show ‘Shelter & Rain’ in 2019 (which received 4/5 stars from This is Radelaide). To top it off he received a nomination for The People's Choice Award (Folk Artist) for the 2019 and 2020 South Australian Music Awards.

2020 saw Luke embark on his first International Headline Tour, with gigs booked across India, Europe and the US with Sofar Sounds and local venues. However the world had other plans so he returned home and set up a studio at his Dad’s house and recorded, mixed and produced his debut record ‘It’s A Place I Know’. Singles from the album ‘On My Own’ & ‘Running Kites’ received 4 star reviews on Triple J Unearthed from Triple J Presenter Steph Hughes & Music Producer Claire Mooney.

It's an album full of heart felt reflections, painful truths & beautiful memories and will be available on all streaming and download platforms on the 9th of October, 2020.

Art

Luke draws delicate mandala patterns & paints large acrylic portraits expressing his emotions and experiences. He is currently working on a collaboration with friend Rodrigo Barua and his own solo exhibition. Luke loves space and the time just before dark, you can see this reflected heavily in his work. Profound, intimate and expressive.
