About this concert
A very special livestream concert with Steve Brantseg (Bash & Pop, The Suburbs) and Willie Wisely, performing songs of The Who, Sunday October 3, 5pm Central. Links to come.
I don't remember not being aware of The Who, their great early singles and all the delicious hooks in Tommy. But it was their performance at Woodstock, in the movie, that really enamored me and solidified this idea that they were the Gibraltar of rock.
As a teen, to play their songs seemed impossible, as I was unable to approach that level of guitar or vocal prowess. That is, until a new friend in the first days of 10th grade, at my new school, asked me to sing "Behind Blue Eyes" at a school function. It was then, I realized The Who were more than the imperturbable granite wall, but actually a songwriter's band – one with an extremely personal voice, (ironically) sung by someone other than the writer himself.
This was only one of the primary enigmas of The Who that drew me in. So some forty years later, to be putting together a show of Who songs for you with one of Minneapolis' most celebrated guitarists, Steve Brantseg, seems like a homecoming that will probably inspire my own next chapter as a writer and recording artist. LONG LIVE ROCK!
