Matt Minigell Biography
Matt Minigell is a Boston, Massachusetts-based songwriter, musician, and busker.
Matt got his start playing music in Boston punk band Left Hand Blue, who toured regionally and released several albums before disbanding at Somerville, MA’s Davis Square Theater in March 2014. In the days that followed, Matt and ex-Left Hand Blue drummer Patrick Lynch formed the powerpop band Matt and the Lower Standards, who hobbled their way through several ill-fated US tours and recorded a full length album and an E.P. before taking their final bow at T.T. the Bear’s Place in Cambridge, MA as a part of the club’s last week of shows, sharing a marquee with the likes of Mary Lou Lord, The Neighborhoods, The Pixies, and Evan Dando.
Matt was first exposed to Elliott Smith's music while he was in high school. The attraction was immediate and intense, and spurred forth the release of Matt's first three solo records (available on Bandcamp and Bigcartel). He is deeply honored to play alongside the incredible roster of artists on the Covering Elliott Project, for which he recorded a cover of "Twilight" with his friend and tourmate Annabelle Lord-Patey.
Matt has can be found performing around Boston's clubs and subways, as well as touring, recording, writing, and gigging with local bands. He is currently working on a new record, to be released early in 2017.
