Princess Biography

"Our first encounter with Princess was “Molly,” an earthy dream-pop tune that pegged the Dublin duo as promising and unique. “Black Window,” their latest, also suggests their sound is difficult to pin down. The song morphs several times, sliding from shimmering Sonic Youth-style guitar parts to spiky early aughts post-punk to something resembling motorik twee chamber-pop. The vocal interplay at the end is especially hypnotic, like an arrangement from an old Sufjan Stevens folk tune crossed with ’90s indie rock at its most metropolitan. It’s a fascinating piece of work, and you should follow it to the finish below" - Stereogum “Ireland's music scene seems to be exploding. Cities such as Dublin are teeming with new talent, with everyone from Girl Band toSeptember Girls gaining acclaim far beyond their homeland. Now Princess could follow suit. Debut EP 'Black Cat' an imposing introduction, all gleaming indie pop melodies and lyrics which scratched at your heart. Veering between sheer bliss and outright noise terror, Princess swing between sweet/sour, positive/negative poles. New single 'Neverlook' encapsulates this perfectly. Four minutes which brim with promise and potential, from the opening drum cracks to the final blasts of feedback this is sheer energy. Wistful, at times even dreamy, 'Neverlook' pairs this against a full throttle assault. Check it out now.” CLASH I’ve yet to see Dublin band Princess live but I’ve heard only good things from some reliable sources. I’ve heard a few songs prior that placed the band in a hazy indie-rock category. Their new single ‘Neverlook’ as premiered by Clash today, has a reverb-drenched ’80s noise-rock vibe to it with room for melody and a big drum sound. A good introduction or pique of interest for any new band. This is Princess: NIALLER9 PRINCESS: What is it with Irish bands and effeminate names? Princess join the likes of September Girls, Girl Band and Girls Names in that gang, although their influences are more diverse, ranging from the mind-bending krautrock odyssey of ‘Excuse The Voice’ to the My Bloody Valentine-like ‘Neverlook’.
