Dylan Thomas Biography
Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) was a seminal, modernist poet. His poetry, albeit said to be hermetic and opaque, has had numerous admirers. One of them, Robert Zimmerman, as a tribute to the poet, took the stage name Bob Dylan. Thomas, a heavy drinker and smoker, lead a bohemian life: promiscuous, full of bar brawls. He died as a result of chronic alcohol poisoning.
Thomas was famous, almost in the same extent as for his works, for his public readings of his poems. He was a very good reader, with a booming, at times ostentatious, voice with a subtle Welsh lilt.
"Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains like the sea."
(Fern Hill)
