About this concert
Streaming from London's famous Nightjar and Oriole bars, in association with Hennessy. PART 3 – A man named Longhair – boogie and Cuba make a rhythmic gumbo
Dom Pipkin is widely acknowledged as one of Europe’s greatest interpreters of New Orleans piano with fans ranging from Jamie Cullum to Hugh Laurie. He’s played all across the world appearing with many famous names, and can regularly be found at Nightjar on the house piano. He is distilling this unique and extensive knowledge into a four part special online concert series “The piano kings of New Orleans”, tracing this spicy musical world from its early roots in ragtime and the brothels of Storyville through the rhythm and blues explosion of the 1940s and 50s and into the greasy drug-fuelled world of the mavericks of the genre in the 60s and beyond. Pipkin presents the story of this music by combining chat, informality and humour with truly breathtaking piano.
Dom’s “home” concerts during lockdown are a much-loved fixture for many, and this takes the concept one step further, taking us deeper into the stories behind the music and the often colourful lives of the musicians who created it.
