Sean Hill Biography

Splashed with chemicals by his Uncle Barry, he then possessed the same super speed powers...oh wait...that's for The Flash...

From a first time professional college audition for a Hip Hop Theater piece called, "Blasting Holes in the Night, ( Playwright - D.J. Anthony Valadez, Director- Doug Kaback), which dealt with almost every political, socio-economic, universal issues of the generation based on the story-telling in Antigone (Sophocles), Sean Hill felt what it was like to be a part of a craft that was beautifully bigger than himself.

In that moment, acting was a means for more than escape or entertainment...it was something that spoke to people from all walks of life in a way that helps people speak honestly to themselves.

That play was constructed alongside a 20 minute open mic guided by the actors in the play. Which is where his love for poetry grew ten fold. Part of the "research" for the open mic portion of the play was to go to an open mic, (Da Poetry Lounge), where Sean and fellow castmates shared a special new experience. Simply put: people were letting out their deepest, most secret and painful, embarrassingly funny, and truthful thoughts...and other people...called an "audience"...were honestly listening and taking it in.

FROM THAT MOMENT ON...HE WAS CAPTAIN PLANET!

Sorry...I like superheroes...I mean...Sean Hill...likes superhereos...

From that moment on, he continued his college education majoring in English: Creative Writing, and Minoring in Theater with a focus on Acting/Directing. He was in the Theater Department so much, that people thought he was actually a Theater Major...some even tried to convert him...he played a pivotal role in "Lost in The Bush" (Playwright - Ali Kiwani), which discussed American slavery more in depth from the African point of view of a Yoruba tribe, in which, there was an actual Yoruba priest (Ayo Ayedemi) supervising the production. It also was one of, if not the first, most diverse productions in CSUN history involving students from the Music, Theater, and Pan African Studies departments.

To speed up this bio...we won't get so detailed now...

He basically realized from those two theater productions that he enjoyed Theater and Acting enough to travel to China on a CSUN Theater/China Institute Scholarship to live in Beijing for approx. 8 months and learn more about theater and Mandarin at the Central Academy of Drama, where he met priceless friends and had the most confrontational reflective experiences.

Upon returning to the States in 2006, he continued acting in theater shows, one act plays, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, Spoken Word variety shows and open mics and even began performing poems at birthdays and weddings, writing personalized poems or doing his own works.

Another life changing work worth mentioning was, "Radio Golf" (Playwright - August Wilson) performed with CSUN alumni and run by the Black Genius Theater Company, and don't worry, they aren't racist, lol, they worked with people of all ethnic backgrounds: simply the pieces they choose to work on are based heavily on African American plays and playwrights. Sean also was glad to work with them in their variety shows and future works as well.

The idea, although not his own, that theater can be used to help us heal ourselves propels Sean Hill's works and silliness. Also, healing self is what poetry has been doing since it's birth. So it makes total crazy sense that his two loves would be his two directions in life...

Most recently, he has hosted the Success is Our Future Graduation Ceremony which celebrated the graduations and achievements of Southern California's probationary youth and the group homes that support them.

He is continuing his second semester at an East Los Angeles High School facilitating a "Poetry Club of Awesome", where he combines the best of poetry exercises and acting exercises to deliver a one of a kind experience to high school folk who wish to dive more into their poetry, acting, self, or all three.

Sean continues to focus on TV and Film, doing some work in commercial, hosting and collaborating with artists of all backgrounds, promoting events that range from fundraisers to open mics, while looking forward to the near future to tour his spoken word poetry with the world...yes...tour it...with...the world.

It's a journey for everyone.

Thank you for your time to read his journey...

and nothing but the best to you on yours~

(Bio will be updated more and more until it's like a Wikipedia page for this guy and his afro...=)
