About this concert
Now that in-person performances are off the table, Jackie Gage teams up with San Jose Jazz to present a special live streamed concert and Q&A. She’ll workshop a brand-new song she’s written in response to our mandated COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, “Just You.” A favorite of SJZ audiences, vocalist Jackie Gage premiered her latest single “A Secret Place” at Summer Fest 2019. A native of San Jose, she grew up surrounded by a diverse music community, from songwriters in beach-side cafes to soul-stirring gospel music in Baptist churches. As a 2014 Jazz Search West finalist, she was awarded performances at Yoshi’s and The Sound Room, venues which have invited her to return multiple times to share her music. Festivals like Fillmore Jazz Festival, and Berkeley Juneteenth have also welcomed Jackie’s music into their programming year after year. Firmly planted in New York City’s jazz scene since 2015, Gage has worked with artists like Marc Cary, Antoinette Montague and Winard Harper, and at venues like BB King’s in Manhattan and Minton’s in Harlem; DC’s Howard Theatre, Philadelphia’s South Kitchen, Harlem Stage, The Mint and Blue Whale in Los Angeles and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Recent tours have seen her a jazz ambassador to Russia (2019, 2020) and Ukraine (2018). ///////////// Live From Home is an experimental series of livestreamed concerts presented by San Jose Jazz in response to the quarantines sweeping the world due to the COVID-19 crisis. Look for these 30-40 minute live streams every Monday and Thursday until further notice, when we’ll give you the opportunity to financially support artists during this difficult time. Jackie Gage Biography

Sweet, calming, warm and soothing – all ways that listeners describe vocalist Jackie Gage.

There's an intimate and hushed feeling present in her live concerts. It's as if she's reading your heart, sharing personal memories of love and loss – at times vulnerable, and equally sweet and sincere. It's an uplifting experience that's not to miss.

Her debut album Siren Songs found praise from the likes of AFROPUNK, All About Jazz, and Singersroom alike, celebrating her youthful nod to the future of jazz.

Originally from San Jose, California, Jackie has relocated to New York and has enjoyed performing her original music in addition to concerts with East Coast band leaders Marc Cary, Winard Harper, Antoinette Montague, and Irwin Hall. She has opened for Darlene Love, El Debarge, Eric Benét, The Brand New Heavies, Digable Planets, and Tony Toni Toné, among others. Her music has also been heard internationally, from KCSM, KCRW and Hawaii's CUH, all the way to Jazz FM in England.

Recent opportunities led by Music Director Marc Cary have also immersed her in the music of Abbey Lincoln and Betty Carter, playing with the likes of Terri Lyne Carrington, Marion Cowings, Reggie Workman, John Webber, Curtis Lundy, Kenyatta Beasley, JD Allen, and Clarence Penn, among others.

She has also been heard performing with LA's electronic disco producer Captain Supernova, Bay Area rapper Lyrics Born, Vermont pianist Joshua David Washington, and NY rapper Dane Lawrence. She can be seen visiting California regularly, touring the state from Harlow's in Sacramento, down to The Mint and Blue Whale in Los Angeles. Additional past performances include BB King's in New York, Minton's in Harlem, DC's Howard Theatre, Philadelphia's South Kitchen, Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles, the Pittsburg Cultural Trust, Fillmore Jazz Festival, and San Jose Jazz Summer Fest.
