Ralph Maten Biography
Born in 1970 Ralph Maten discovered the piano at an early age.
His first solo album „Life in Misery“ (Amp-Media) was released in 1996.
Music full of melancholy according to the motto „While my piano gently weeps“.
His charismatic voice resembles the warmth of a very young Cat Stervens. Combined with his soft and tender paino playing it’s a feast for the senses.
In 2014 when his fifth solo album „Yours and mine“(Amp-Media) was released the press started calling him „Velvetman“.
His next album „Cheers for tears“ (Amp-Media/Timezone/Believe) contained a cover of the song „Friday I’m in love“ by The Cure, which Ralph Maten used to promote his idea „Fridaylove“ for UNICEF in 2019.
His 7th solo album „Colours“ was released in 2020 and is again setting new standards.
Ralph Maten is Songwriter, Producer, Singer(Rock, Blues & Jazz) and pianist
(Torch Music & Adult Contemporary).
He is also an endorser for stage pianos built by well-known traditional Japanese companies.
On stage Ralph charmes the audience with his most powerful tool: his characteristic velvety voice.
In his own studio he has worked on remixes of productions by Udo Lindenberg, Wir sind Helden, Glashaus, Yello, Funker Voigt and others.
He has released over twenty albums on his own label Amp-Media.
For more than 8 years he performed at the biggest Darkwave and Gothic Festivals. Amongst others Maten supported greats like Marilyn Manson, Wolfsheim, HIM, De/Vision and the idol of his youth Marc Almond (Soft Cell).
Nowadays he prefers the small clubs again where he is closer to the audience: „People should hear when I hit a wrong note. To me the music is most important, not the lights or the stage show“.
