Pianist Feico Deutekom speelt muziek van zijn nieuwste cd Musical Offering, die geheel is gewijd aan de wereldberoemde Amerikaanse componist Philip Glass.
De muziek van Philip Glass, grondlegger van de minimal music, is enorm populair en onder meer bekend van zijn soundtracks van films als The Hours en baanbrekend muziektheater als Einstein on the Beach. Ritmische en opzwepende muziek wordt afgewisseld met langzame, rustgevende klanken om bij weg te dromen en daarom staat deze muziek hoog op de lijst bij zowel liefhebbers van klassiek als van popmuziek.
Bijzonder is dat de stukken die Feico zal spelen grotendeels nieuwe bewerkingen voor piano zijn van muziek die Glass oorspronkelijk schreef voor instrumentale ensembles. Glass gaf Feico de vrije hand bij de keuze van stukken ter bewerking. U hoort muziek van Glass zoals die nog niet eerder geklonken heeft, zoals Facades from Glassworks, Company, Passages en Les Enfants Terribles. Ook speelt Feico een paar van de wonderschone Etudes voor piano.
Tijdens het concert wordt de muziek gekoppeld aan projecties van beelden van de internationaal bekroonde fotograaf Johannes Bosgra. De minimalistische zeegezichten zijn door Johannes exact afgestemd op de muziek van Glass, zodat muziek en beelden gezamenlijk een audiovisuele ervaring creëren waarin het publiek wordt ondergedompeld.
Op 20 september jl. verscheen de single Facades als voorloper op Feico’s nieuwe album Philip Glass Musical Offering. De wereldwijde release volgde op 31 januari dit jaar, op de 83-ste verjaardag van Glass, door het prestigieuze composers label Orange Mountain Music. Feico is de eerste Nederlandse pianist die op dit label verschijnt. De cd behoort sinds verschijnen tot de best verkochte en meest beluisterde klassieke albums van dit jaar. Musical Offering is het muzikale vervolg op de cd FEICO SOLO, met pianocomposities van verschillende componisten in de minimal of neo-klassieke stijl. Dit album werd in juni 2018 op NPO Radio 4 verkozen tot CD van de Week.

Feico Deutekom had an early introduction to music through his father, a jazz musician. Learning the piano during his childhood, he studied the works and styles of classical composers, before turning more towards minimal music and neo-classical music.
Co-founder of the Attacca Ensemble, Feico has given concerts both as a pianist and as a singer of minimal and repetitive music ranging from Philip Glass, David Lang to Arvo P?rt. Highlights on the Ensemble's repertory are the concert version of Philip Glass' Einstein on the Beach, in which he sang and played keyboards, Glass Another Look at Harmony Part 4, Arvo P?rt's Kanon Pokajaanen and David Lang's Little Match Girl Passion. Together with harpist Lavinia Meijer Feico and the Attacca Ensemble have toured all major stages in The Netherlands with a theatre program around Philip Glass music.
Feico is a regular guest player at concerts of Philip Glass in The Netherlands. At these concerts he has performed music from Einstein on the Beach, Akhnaten, Music in Similar Motion, Hydrogen Jukebox and The Photographer. He has played quatre mains together with Philip Glass (The Chase), with singer Tara Hugo he has done songs from The Book of Longing.
Feico co-founded the Floe Ensemble with which he made an overwhelming debut in October 2017 during one of Philip Glass's concerts in Amsterdam, performing parts of the multi-media theatre work The Photographer by Philip Glass and director Rob Malasch.
Feico plays regularly in concert together with other artists. With harpist Lavinia Meijer he plays as a harp/piano duo. Composer Douwe Eisenga wrote a piece for them titled Chants d'Hiver. With Lavinia Feico has arranged various music for harp and piano by Glass, Wim Mertens, Yann Tiersen, Meredith Monk and Michael Nyman.
FEICO SOLO is the title of Feico's debut piano cd, released by Zefir Records in 2018, with compositions by Philip Glass, David Lang, John Adams, Nils Frahm, Douwe Eisenga and Ryuichi Sakamoto. It includes 3 pieces from Glass's score for the movie Mishima, arranged for solo piano with the composers permission. The album received critical acclaim internationally, most notably from Grammaphone.co.uk. The album also featured as CD OF THE WEEK on Dutch national radio NPO 4 in June 2018.
