Joe Willey and the Movin' Men Biography
Joe Willey and the Movin’ Men, named after their song “It Must Have Been the Movin’ Man," are an Americana band playing original songs and tunes. Their strong traditional blues, celtic, bluegrass and old fiddle-tune roots come out in the songs with a few hard-driving twists here and there to keep things fresh.
Joe Willey (songwriting, vocals, guitar, harmonica, banjo and concertina) has been playing roots music in Athens, Ga. since 1984. Currently, he is in an old-time fiddle band called The Ale Raisers (2015 North Georgia Folk Festival) as well as "Joe Willey and the Movin' Men."
Dan Horowitz (standup bass, vocals) is a rock ’n’ roll legend in Athens, Ga. As the bass player in Five Eight he’s been shaking teeth loose and worrying parents since the mid eighties. He is the driving force behind Klezmer Local 42 and he plays early jazz with the Hot Hottie-Hots. Dan provides the heartbeat and backup vocals for The Movin' Men.
John Evans (lead guitar, dobro), aka Johnny Fabulous, also plays with the Borderhop Trio and The Welfare Liners. The most recent addition to the band, Johnny provides funky, face-melting flat-pick guitar and dobro grooves.
