Angie & the Nightmares Biography
Raised in a small town on California's central coast, Angie Nightmare grew up on bluegrass records and tall tales.
Following in the footsteps of greats like Tom Waits and Josh Ritter, Angie's songs mine the bittersweet vein of American folk narrative, blending the self-deprecation of down-and-out country with modern ironic snark. By mixing the storytelling tradition of Cline and Cash with the self-reflexive humor of modern artists like Ben Folds and Lily Allen, she bends the framework of folk, country, and blues to tell her own unique stories.
Since 2011, Angie and bandmate Anna Maretta Cole performed together as The Luck, using their unique bass and drum format to explore sounds ranging from jazz, to blues, to folk. Embraced by the central coast Rockabilly community, the band can be found playing at veteran’s charity events, farmers' markets, wineries and dive bars. They've gigged with Rockabilly staples Gamblers Mark, The Rockets, Koffin Kats, and the Phenonmenauts, and opened for the Americana side-projects of many an aging punk including Doug C. and the Blacklisted, Roddy Radiation, and Jason Cruz and Howl.
In 2016 the group added a guitarist and adopted a more blues-based sound. Signaling this musical change of seasons and a desire to learn and grow, the Luck became Angie and the Nightmares in 2018. With a new lineup of Americana enthusiast Aaron France and rockabilly veteran Sean "Doc" Campbell, the band can be found telling tall-tales and setting fire to dance floors throughout the central coast.
The Nightmares are currently at work on their second full-length independent record, to be released in Summer 2020.
