Brad Butcher Biography

When your hear people talk about Brad Butcher as an Australian Songwriter or more importantly as a person the same few words are thrown around … Honest, Hardworking, Mate, Genuine. These traits obviously run deep in his bloodline. Brad’s grandfather, Norman, grew up one of thirteen kids in a cane cutters cottage just south of Mackay in Central Queensland, along the banks of the Pioneer river. During the tough times of the post depression years and World War 2 era, “Norm” was seen as a beacon of hope and resilience to the large family. Brad reflects, “There’s no greater source of motivation than survival and Pop was determined to make sure his family had a future. He was far from the eldest in the family but he and his brothers were more like father figures, working the local cane fields and fishing the Pioneer river to live. He taught me that there is no substitute for hard work”. Norm’s life’s story is the inspiration behind Brad Butcher’s first single WELL DRESSED MAN and largely influenced the title track, FROM THE BOTTOM OF A WELL. Recorded with highly acclaimed and multi award winning Australian producer Matt Fell, at Sydney’s Love Hz Studio. FROM THE BOTTOM OF A WELL encompasses Butchers take on Americana music, a great blending of genres, to create a sound that is uniquely his. It also showcases the further development and outstanding quality of Butchers songwriting and vocal prowess. Butchers songwriting has been nominated for a stack of awards in the past 4 years ~ 3 Queensland Music Awards (2012, 13′ & 16′) | Finalist for the APRA Professional Development Award (2013) | Finalist for the CMC New Oz Artist of the Year Award (2013) among others ~ he’s toured Australia and the United States of America multiple times even performing at the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and at New York City’s The Bitter End in Greenwich Village in 2016. He also appeared on Canada’s prime time breakfast television show, Canada AM, while on tour performing in Toronto’s NXNE Festival in 2013. Brad has graced the stage and supported some of the finest artists to rise from Australian soil, such as: Troy Cassar-Daley, Busby Marou, Diesel, Mark Seymour and Shane Nicholson. In today’s digital age, an ‘Aussie” artist like Brad Butcher is part of a dying breed. You see Brad isn’t about writing to please a certain demographic nor aiming for fame or fortune. Brad is about telling his story in the only way he knows, with honesty and his unique writing quality, with a refreshing view of his world. From his childhood days fishing the Pioneer River, his sporting years playing Rugby League in Mackay, working in coal mines as a crane operator and rigger, to touring the world as a musician, Brad’s stories commentate on reality, mental health, growing up in Central Queensland and the everyman daily grind. Above all though, they share a message of hope and inspiration within, that most modern songwriters fail to communicate. “I always look forward to hearing a new Brad Butcher album – knowing he will be moving forward musically and lyrically – it won’t be the same as the last – that’s what a true artist does – is faithful to their creative spirit and vision – and by so doing they carve out a place in the market that is theirs and theirs alone. Well Dressed Man is pure Brad Butcher and it ticks all the above boxes for me – so I’m eagerly anticipating the rest of the Album” ~ Graeme Connors Brad, “It takes a unique strength and character to raise a family, create your own future and leave behind a lasting legacy from the most unlikely of beginnings, and it feels like the perfect fit to dedicate this album to my Pop, Norman George Butcher”. FROM THE BOTTOM OF A WELL is Butchers third album and his finest work to date cementing him at the forefront of a new generation of Australian story tellers and is set for an August 4th release. www.bradbutcher.com Described as having the working-class grit of Springsteen and the tender expressions of Ray Lamontagne.
