Mental Friction Biography
Popular Southern Ontario Rockers Mental Friction, fresh off a solid series of 2019 perfor-
mances which galvanized the rock duo’s popularity with both US and Canadian audiences,
have just wrapped a British Columbia recording session with Sal Costa (Bonds of Mara, My
Darkest Days) and Danny Craig (Default Band). The 3-week BC session culminated in
Capricorn, the band’s new 5-song EP.
Mental Friction’s July 2019 appearance at the Red Dog in Peterborough saw the band
outsell headlining acts for the sold-out event by Diamond Agency promoter Brandon Bird.
MF’s carefully cultivated online presence has built a powerful online fanbase for its music
with fans all over Canada and the United States. A series of Facebook Live sessions in 2017
and 2018 helped introduce MF to thousands of new fans and offered intimate performances
from a studio in Mississauga, Ontario.
MF’s digital marketing efforts led to over 100,000 views of their January 2018 single Saint
Marie in one week, leading 94.9FMs Lee Eckley to put the song in the Toronto station’s
weekend rotation.
MF’s new website (mentalfriction.com) and Spotify channel continue to drive new audience
engagement- and act as a powerful tool for filling seats at MF performances in
North America.
