Oh Antonio + His Imaginary Friends Biography
In 1982, Antonio met Grapes, his first Imaginary Friend. Grapes and Antonio had several adventures together. They shared secrets, sang songs and Grapes always had a chair at the dinner table.
Sadly, Antonio grew up, got a degree, found a corporate job and forgot about Grapes.
Then one day, Antonio felt low. Climbing corporate culture and recovering from an embattled relationship shifted his heart. Looking for a reprieve, Antonio rediscovered his love of music. He longed to smile and yearned for others to do the same. He wrote silly songs focused on hope, love, and understanding.
As time moved on, Antonio’s found others who wanted to join the fun!
Today, Oh Antonio And His Imaginary Friends share joy with everyone they meet.
Their self-aware vintage pop is shaped by sax, flugelhorn, trumpet, violin, viola, keys, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, and harmonious vocals that will have you singing along before song is over. Your hips will move, your heart will smile - all while pulling influences from Buddy Holly, Elvis Costello, The E Street Band, Billy Joel, and The Cure to name a few!
Since their inception, the Imaginary Friends have laughed and played with Hans Gruber and The Die Hards, Chris Staples [Barsuk], Tallheart [Equal Vision], The Selfless Lovers, Tomboi, Donovan Keith, Como Los Movies, Dr. Joe, Belcurve, Beth Lee and The Breakups, The Danger * Cakes, and The Gents. The Imaginary Friends have been sighted at Austin Music Week, Free Week, SXSW Cares, HAAM day, Robot Rock [Science In A Suitcase], Girls Rock Austin, Austin Pride, Stubbs, Mohawk, and The Parish to name a few.
Let’s meet, make magic and become Imaginary Friends - you, me, and grapes!
