About this concert
Philadelphia native, tenor, and soprano saxophonist Antoine Roney grew up in a musical family. Brother to renowned trumpeter Wallace Roney, their grandfather Roosevelt Sherman was a multi-instrumentalist, playing the guitar, tuba, and trumpet in the Philadelphia area. Antoine has worked with jazz greats Donald Byrd, Elvin Jones, and Freddie Hubbard among others and has released five recordings as a leader. Meet his son, drum prodigy Kojo Roney, who began his professional career at age eight on his first tour in Europe and just recently made his Kennedy Center debut at age 15. He’s been performing with established ensembles and has shared the stage with such jazz greats as Buster Williams, Chick Corea, Wallace Roney, and his father, to name a few.
