Escaper Biography

Escaper is a progressive rock dance band based in New York City. Defined as “one who breaks free from confinement,” Escaper’s lush and complex music knows no earthly bounds. The quartet builds intricate tracks using layer upon layer of harmonious soundscapes, transporting the listeners on an auditory journey. Their live performances are equally stunning, as they deliver dazzling improvisation alongside moving lyrics.

Escaper was formed in 2016 by Will Hanza (guitar, vocals) as a musical collective that pushed creative freedom. Joined in 2018 by Phil Kadet (keys, vocal), the band has welcomed sit-ins on stage with members of the Disco Biscuits, Brazilian Girls, Thievery Corporation, Rubblebucket, Dopapod, Cabinet, Turkuaz and more. They have previously shared bills at Brooklyn Bowl with Jon Fishman (Phish), Karl Denson, and other top performers.

After a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, they have now been joined by drummer Sam Crespo and bassist Luke Bemand for their the new album, Spaceship. Crespo and Bemand bring a wealth of experience to the band; Crespo tours with notable future jam act Space Bacon, while Bemand handles the low end for heavy groove trio, lespecial.

Spaceship is now all streaming and download platforms via Ropeadope Records.
