The Rockskandi Kings Biography
In the tradition of the Zulu greats Mfaz’ Omnyama and Busi Mhlongo The Rockskandi Kings draw attention to issues in South Africa and the world at large. They like to have fun too and as hugely experienced live musicians re-interpret their songs each time they play, just as the great bands of the 60’s and 70’s had no expectations of playing their songs as carbon copies of their records. Their influences are diverse, from Mali to the Mississippi, Jamaica to the migrant hostels of Johannesburg. The band was birthed between Cape Town, Norway and Germany. It arose in-between various other projects: Freshlyground, Slaves to the Rhythm, Mean Black Mamba and in Lumunyano’s case, one of the most in demand drummers \ producers in South Africa. The chemistry was immediate and they went from one rehearsal into the studio to write and record.
