Clovis Biography

There are several artists with the name Clovis:

1) Clovis are a Spanish music collective formed in New York by Fino Oyonarte and Cristina Plaza with releases on Sinnamon records and Limbo Starr

2) Clovis are a North America band with releases on Teal Creek Music

1) Clovis are Fino Oyonarte –Los Enemigos bass player and producer of bands sucha as Los Planetas, Mercromina or Lagartija Nick- and Cristina Plaza -responsible for the fanzine ‘Catódicos Protestantes’, actress, ocasional dj, screenwriter, director of independent theatre plays..

The band is formed at the beginning of 2000 in New York, when they went for a short holidays which became 4 months. There, apart from going around the streets, going to a theatre course (Cristina) and enjoying conecerts and exhibitions, they started to write songs, starting what Clovis will be. Thanks to the help of Matthew Caws (Nada Surf) who was their neighbour, they recorded their first demo. The name of the band is due to one of their favourite cafes in the city. A café-bookshop owned by their friend Amanda Taylor, where Fino and Cristina spents hours btween books, concerts and exhibitions.

2) Clovis is made by six Pacific Northwest musicians with eclectic palettes and influences: Tom Bergeron, Keller Coker, Matt Cooper, Garry Hagberg, Glen Moore, and Graham Lear.

Defying categorization, the album features compositions which range in style from Hagberg's sultry ballad, Blues for Julia, through Coker's Brazilian-tinged Close Enough to Kiss, the Northwest fusion of Cooper's Copland, and a tango by Bergeron, to Moore's classic toe-tapper, Pépé Linque. All of it is anchored and propelled by Lear's powerful and sensitive drumming.
