Mathew Kerry Biography
Mathew Kerry is a bespectacled folk-punk-ish singer- songwriter from Leeds, currently based in Manchester. He is constantly writing and performing, having racked up over 300 shows and open mics since 2012, but in the last few years his focus has turned to recording and self- producing new material.
In 2019, he independently released his debut EP ‘okie dokie?’ recorded, mixed and mastered entirely in his bedroom, and launched it to a packed out backroom full of friends and local fans. A successful small scale release and experiment, ‘okie dokie?’ proves to be a promising look at what’s to come from Mathew in the new decade.
Often compared to the likes of Frank Turner, The Mountain Goats, Prefab Sprout, Billy Bragg, John K Samson, Glenn Tillbrook, The Weakerthans, and The Hold Steady, his work is lyrically-led, candid, sad, and silly.
He sings songs about attempted one night stands on Canal Street, savings accounts, and the Magic Bus.
Heart on sleeve and tongue firmly in cheek.
