Hannah Willwood Biography
Hannah is a 22-year-old singer songwriter from Snowdonia in North Wales, currently based in Leeds, whose music exhibits a blend of blend "jazz, folk and indie; [which is] at once familiar yet fresh and unique".
There is a gentle, but resolute quality to her writing and performance. Inspiration has been found through relationships and within the rugged silence of the mountains in which she grew up.
Her organic approach to music is driven by a desire to affect the emotions with the lightest touch. However, her lyrics hold an understated weight with at times a brutal honesty. Her songwriting cites influences from Julia Jacklin, Laura Marling, Alice Phoebe Lou and Andy Shauf.
“A stellar performance” David Pichilingi, Director at Liverpool Sound City.
"It seems that North Wales has been birthing some top class singers [...] Hannah Willwood [...] left me feeling rested, restored and ready for the night ahead" Kaptin Barrett, Boomtown's Head of Music.
“Hannah Willwood and her band created the most incredible sound during their set. Blending jazz, folk and indie, her music is at once familiar yet fresh and unique. With resonances of an earlier era, it is a sound that intrigues, mesmerises, and captivates. This girl is going places.” One’s to Watch from Focus Wales 2019 - Gareth Williams.
"A real peaceful aura to them, especially to Hannah. She doesn't force anything about her voice, even though it's incredibly skilful [...] What a delight. What a fantastic band." Bethan Elfyn, BBC Radio Wales.
