Maria Diaz Music Biography

Maria Diaz is a professional freelance musician, vocal artist, and a voice and piano teacher. She has degrees in Music Education and Performing Arts Administration from the Crane School of Music and New York University, as well as a professional teacher’s certificate from the State of New York. As a professional, she cares about making the best product available, whether that means coaching a singer to perfection, writing a song with scrutiny, detail, and passion, or giving the most energetic and engaging performance possible.

In performances in public locations like restaurants and wineries, Maria performs a variety of music from ‘70s classics to today’s music. She focuses on playing upbeat tunes and creating an enjoyable ambiance for customers. Maria also sings in the styles of opera/classical, jazz, Broadway, folk/country, and pop. She sings and plays guitar, keyboard, and synth with other groups on Long Island, including the Baeonettes, Coffee Nap, and Ninja Tree House.

Additionally, Maria is an experienced choral singer and director. She led the choirs at Port Jefferson Middle and High School during the 2018-2019 year, and she taught choir and general music in the Herricks School District from 2016-2018. She has also led the choir for the Secret City NYC, an organization that worships art in meetings and celebrations. She sings regularly with the eVoco voice collective, an award winning choir, which performs contemporary music and masterworks.

Growing up in Massapequa on Long Island, Maria could often be found secretly recording songs on her walkman, taking pictures during snowstorms to post on her blog, and writing poems in her notebook. At age 13, her favorite thing to do was to lie awake vibrating at bedtime listening to a recording of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” on her headphones. On her 16th birthday, a friend gave her OK Computer. In High School, she performed West Side Story and fell in love with Leonard Bernstein. In college, she was introduced to jazz theory and her favorite jazz composer Maria Schneider. Now, she experiments with all kinds of music and art forms, including creative writing, dance, and theater. All in all, her taste is highly eclectic and predicated on a love for the best of what’s out there in any genre.
