Dave Hanson Biography

Building on a successful career as guitarist and songwriter with The Dunwells,
Dave Hanson launches new music with a laid back, groovy vibe inspired by his love of JJ Cale, Dire Straits and The Black Keys.

“I heard Call Me The Breeze and from there discovered an entire legacy of cool music.” Hanson recalls. “I really admire his [J.J.Cale] laid back approach which has made his records timeless.”

Last year Hanson took the decision to move on from The Dunwells, a band that he’d founded five years previously and forge a career of his own. A band with whom he enjoyed considerable success, touring with Mumford and Sons, Sheryl Crow & Amos Lee in the US and Europe. Performing live on the ‘Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno; scoring US Top 40 singles and playing many memorable major festivals including Lollapalooza, ACL and Redrocks. However his desire to create his own music won out in the end and he parted company on amicable terms.

It was this time spent traveling across America and meeting new people that has given Hanson the rich tapestry of experiences to write about and the inspiration for this new album. “I seem to have a knack of getting myself into the most surreal and crazy situations, so I thought I would incorporate these themes into my songs!” he states.

It was the desire to create a cooler and more laid back vibe to the album that bought Hanson back to his home town of Leeds in the UK with its burgeoning Funk/Soul scene. “The Haggis Horns (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson), The New Mastersounds and Corinne Bailey Rae all live in a 5 mile radius, and I was able to hook up with some amazing musicians.” he recalls.

Working with producer Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam, Blue October) Dave Hanson has succeeded in making an album of material that sounds warm and familiar and combines a modern production value.

Building up a young and appreciative fan base as he goes, Hanson has been recently been gigging across the UK taking in some famous venues including “The Blues Kitchen” (where Gary Clark Jr played his first UK show) and “The Bedford” (where Dave played with Ed Sheeran back in 2011).

With an EP set for release Autumn 2015, and with the full album to follow, Dave Hanson is reaching out to people like him - real music fans that grew up listening to the classic records, but yearn for a fresh modern alternative to call their own.
