About this concert
This March sees us celebrating 6 years of Switch as chart a globe-trotting course through a fiery array of club sounds. The artists, with influences ranging from Pakistan, Colombia, Lebanon and South Africa, capture the worldwide scope of club music and the ever increasing importance of scenes outside of Europe and North America. If they are united by one thing, it’s a shared flair for hotting up dancefloors around the world. Rudeboyz Vital South African gqom duo Rudeboyz top the bill to show why the infectious Durban sound has influenced club music globally. The highly percussive genre, both hard and hypnotic, has surged in popularity across the 2010s, championed by UK luminaries such as Kode9 and Scratcha DVA . Florentino Hailing from Manchester and Colombia, Florentino fuses the heft of UK bass music with the syncopated rhythms of reggaeton. He is an influential bridge between these worlds with a close affiliation to Manchester’s Swing Ting crew and multiple production credits for Barcelona’s breakout reggaeton star, Bad Gyal. Manara Manara is renowned for the Bollywood edits that she weaves into garage, grime and UK funky. Party music through and through, her addictive blends are scarily effective at setting off a rave and have become an essential ingredient in the sound of the seminal Night Slugs label. DJ Plead DJ Plead tracks were ubiquitous in 2019 and are a potent mix of hard drum, UK funky and frenetic Middle Eastern percussion. His productions have graced sets ranging from Kampire and TSVI to blockbuster DJs such as Ben UFO and Four Tet. He’s also a fearsome presence behind the decks with a string of his own show-stopping mixes. Overtone (Tayls, Holloway, Simkin) We are joined for a second inning by Overtone, the essential South London crew who are fresh off a 4 hour masterclass at RA’s 24 hour party at FOLD. These techno and breaks maestros host floor 2 of Bussey Building.

Tom Moon Biography

Tom Moon, aged 25, is a singer/songwriter residing from Liverpool and now more recently, London. The son of a vicar, Tom grew up in many cities across the UK attending many schools including a primary school in Australia. Music had a heavy impact on Tom’s life from an early age. Influenced by legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and John Frusciante (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Tom’s main ambition was to become a session guitarist but this was soon to envolve when Tom wrote his first song aged 15, whilst playing in numerous ‘heavy rock’ bands in Harrogate. Travelling was also a big passion in Tom’s life. Tom said: “ Probably my craziest travelling story would be when a mate and I ended up staying in a Buddhist monk’s house in north India, who spoke no English at all, the only way we communicated was through arm wrestling.” Nights around the campfire in Australia, writing songs with like minded Australian musicians, the beauty of acoustic music and seeing the world had had an enormous impact on him. From then on he decided to go it alone and become a solo artist. Living with a poverty stricken family and helping out in a village whilst travelling in Gambia, Tom penned the songs “Like The Sun” and “New View”. "Perspective creeps and rips out this emptiness", lyrics taken from New View. “It was an incredible experience and I'd love to go back there one day.” Tom said. After attending Liverpool University and playing regularly at the many venues including the Cavern Club (birthplace of the Beatles), Tom set about recording the songs he had written on his travels. Enlisting help from Producer / Engineer, Steve Sale, Tom set about recording the “By The By” EP. Steve Sale said: “Ultimately the songs Tom had written were just him and a guitar, but on listening to the songs I knew the boundaries could be pushed further. The result was to tip toe around the songs carefully adding production to them so they still felt acoustic but yet had a band behind them, and a string quartet was a must!” Tom’s style has been likened to Ben Howard, Mumford & Sons, Ray LaMontagne, The Doves, Coldplay and even Beck. The 5 track “By The By” EP is out soon. Live dates will be announced shortly. Tom Moon is a singer/songwriter living and gigging in London. www.tommoon.co.uk
