Leafblade Biography

Liverpool UK based rock trio. Sean and Kevin composed together throughout the 1990s in critically acclaimed progressive band Valle Crucis, playing thunderous, purely theatrical, conceptual works, nurturing also a love of acoustic ambience with a Nature-Mystical feel. Sean formed Leafblade with Daniel Cavanagh in 2003 with Kevin on bass. The powerful evocations of Leafblade were born, coloured with nature-myth, poetry and the gravity of the seasons; a delicate blend of hauntingly acoustic refrains, rich with storytelling imagery. Acoustic tours of Europe began, until 2006 with the release of Beyond, Beyond to Aftermath Music. Beyond, Beyond was generously lauded everywhere, rich in ecstatic, soothing tones, haunting vocals and melodies and silvered orchestration. The listener would witness the interweaving of the deeply poetic sentiment for unfolding life; expanded, Cosmic Consciousness. Dan Cavanagh had always loved Sean’s music, finding in it a “sense of home”, “gold and green”, Celtic Epigram, Arthurian Allegory, a tapestry at once polyphonic, medieval, ambient, absorbing: the Sacred Groves of the Celts; journeys through inner landscapes celebrating the Sabbatical Round. This cemented a musical collaboration and a start of many journeys geographical, spiritual and creative. In spring 2010, Leafblade recorded their latest opus The Kiss of Spirit and Flesh, a cauldron of season songs and moon poems for souls sprayed with starry nebulae, produced by Dan Cavanagh and featuring drums from Daniel Cardoso. Set for release in May 2013 through Snapper Music / Kscope Records, The Kiss of Spirit and Flesh steps up the dynamics from Beyond,Beyond, with powerful anthemic refrains, uplifting orchestration and leaden guitar-work as well as the idiosyncratic lute-like nylon strings and multi-range vocals. By turns haunting, Troubadour, far-reaching, articulate, The Kiss of Spirit and Flesh is washed through with lush symphonic weaving and percussion. Thematically, The Kiss of Spirit and Flesh celebrates the Poet’s interaction with Nature, sees the human condition in a transcending manner, a gateway between deeper vision and the life in the Land. A rich blending of powerful evocations through progressive and Celtic metal, gripping rock anthems and hauntingly acoustic refrains.
