Shake Before Us Biography

“Noisy, rocking, trash, garage, mayhem, 60's punk, sci-fi dance music.” SHAKE BEFORE US has just wrapped up their second full-length album, RADIO TIME BOMB, due for release on vinyl and CD Summer 2014. As with the band's 2012 debut, it was produced by John "Swami" Reis (Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes). Both albums were recorded live directly to vintage tape machines (8-track and 16-track reel-to-reel, respectively), and they're perfect snapshots of the band at its best... LIVE. "The best moments of the new record are beyond anything on the first one, as good as that was," says Reis. "The songwriting is just more assured and consistent. Definitely carves out its own sound." SBU have always held to a, “get buzzed and turn up the fuzz” attitude. They use their experiences to tell true tales of lost faith, lost love, booze and drugs, sin and self-doubt. The music is a maniacal mix of organ, guitar, dual howling vocals, deep drums and even deeper bass. They pair the past with the future for a sound that is vintage yet modern at the same time. The band was formed in June, 2010 in San Diego, California when 4 friends - Jesse Pryor (gtr/vox), Will A Lerner (keys/vox), Kevin “Cuz” Donahue (bass), Fonda (drums) - found they shared a common love for vintage organs, hollow body guitars, Theremins, cool ties and a red sparkle drum kit. They've created a live show that's a true rock revival, salvation firmly delivered through a relentless wall of sound on a sweat-filled dancefloor. It's uplifting and unnerving at the same time, and it gets the audience dancing. With Cuz's departure, SBU now includes John Falk on bass. Shake Before Us has shared the stage with some great rock n roll bands, including the Hives (two sold-out So Cal shows, Feb. 2013), King Khan and the Shrines, Living Colour, Supersuckers, The Blasters, Holly Golightly, Old Man Markley, Transfer, The Oblivions, as well as the Ink N Iron Festival 2012. "Did you ever listen to a Monkees' song and wish there was a little more heft in the balls of the song? Well Shake Before Us are the balls of 60's pop; giving old school style tunes with the edge and weight of rock 'n' roll. It's vaguely familiar in a very good way. It's like a bunch of rockers ended up in a mod band and as my roots in loving music are in loving The Who, I like this band. Bonus: they dress well." - Marissa Mortati, Of Shows And Burritos New album "RADIO TIME BOMB" out now on Tower Bar Records!
